Living in Northern Vermont, she contributes regularly in Fine Cooking, Saveur, Bon Appetit and Eating Well magazines, and was selected as the 2007 “Bon Appetit Cooking Teacher of the Year.”

Trained Chef and Master Butcher Frank Pace is the in-house butcher for Guild Fine Meats and sister restaurants, and soon in a sandwich shop on St.Paul Street in Burlington. As such, Frank travels to and helps purchase whole animals from local farms, then butchers the meat and prepares dry-aged steaks, fresh sausage, dry- cured Italian Salami, charcuterie and more.

Early Childhood MAYFEST Celebration

Saturday, May 4th, 10:00-2:00pm

Jump into springtime fun at our Early Childhood Mayfest on Saturday, May 4, from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

This annual celebration is a beloved event for area families, and it’s easy to see why: this is a day designed for the young child—not too much noise or bustle, but lots of outdoor merry-making for the under-six crowd and their families.

Children can hold a colorful ribbon and dance around the Maypole or make their own garland crown out of flowers and vines. Free face painting, pony rides (available for a nominal fee), and live music make this an unforgettable event.

Families are invited to bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic, or enjoy kid-friendly lunches and treats from the concession stand. After the festival, parents can linger as kids play on the playground or visit the resident sheep and bunnies.

Lake Champlain Waldorf School is located at the end of Turtle Lane, off Harbor Road in Shelburne, VT. For information please call (802) 985-2827 x 12

English Country Dancing

Monday, October 15, 6:30-8:30pm

You are welcome to come to a great evening of light, fun social dancing for adults and for students in sixth grade and older. We are hosting an introductory English Country Dancing class on Monday October 15, 6:30-8:30 in the Community Room at the Turtle Lane campus. [If there is interest, a regular dance at our school can follow, hopefully with live music].
What is English County Dancing? It is a style of social dance, originally from the eighteenth century and earlier, done in different formations (long or short lines, circles, squares, etc.) ranging in mood from light playfulness to delightful elegance, enthusiastically robust to gloriously stately. The music comes from composers Purcell, Handel, and Grainger as well as traditional, folk, classical and contemporary sources, and is above all, very melodic. It’s easy to learn, and the basic step is simple -- just walking in time with the music.
If you come, bring clean, flat-heeled shoes with some traction; it’s best to avoid high or narrow heels, sneakers, and flip-flops/mules. Dress comfortably and casually, and be aware that you can get warm, so layers are helpful. This first class will be to recorded music, but in the future we might have live musicians.

Oh! O.Henry, an Eric Foxman production

October 20th 7:00 - 9:00pm

Back by popular demand, Eric Foxman brings his one-man performance of short stories to Shelburne for a extraordinary one-night only engagement. Oh! O.Henry! is an evening of short story masterpieces by America’s favorite writer early 20th century writer, O.Henry. These stories come alive in a theatrical tour-de-force to benefit the Lake Champlain Waldorf School.

Eric will weave together four gems, creating a program guaranteed to make the audience laugh aloud and smile within. “These are some of my O. Henry favorites,” says Foxman. “I want to share them with the audience so they, too, will be tickled and delighted.” The four stories portray the various ways love and romance can intertwine in people’s lives and are a delight to watch. With a minimum of props, and clothed in O. Henry’s own words, the actor invites the audience to let their imaginations roam free to breathe life into these delightful stories.

In addition to three humorous stories, the program includes a story of suspense and drama that allows to audience to ponder ‘what might happen next’. Eric introduces each story with a glimpse into the phases of O. Henry’s life so the audience becomes familiar with the man who wrote these masterworks. “This year marks the centenary of O.Henry’s death. I am honored to be able to give these stories as a gift and offer this program as a grateful tribute to this master of American literature,” notes Foxman.

This special performance in Vermont is part of a tour Foxman is making throughout the Pacific Northwest. Eric has previously performed in New England, New York, the Southwest, as well as Texas, California and Germany. With close to 100 performances under his belt, audiences in over 45 venues have enjoyed his varied programs through the last decade. Come enjoy yourself for the evening, hear some remarkably funny stories and help the Lake Champlain Waldorf School all at the same time!

Due to the length and vocabulary of the program, the evening is suitable for grades six and up. Oh! O.Henry! will be presented at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School, at 359 Turtle Lane, Shelburne, VT on Saturday, October 20th at 7 pm. Suggested donation at the door: $10 / person or $15 / family.

Parenting in a Media-Saturated World

Parenting in a Media-Saturated World

Life of the Child Conference

March 11-12, 2011

Children and teenagers today are inundated with media wherever they look. Parents are confronted with constant decision making: if or when to allow Facebook and social media, text messaging, video games, television, computers, cell phones, and all the emerging technologies. So, with media, when should we say “no” or “yes?” How do we gauge when the answer is “not yet?” Whether media savvy or clueless, as parents we must establish the boundaries and educate our children so they can be masters of media, rather than be mastered by it. Keynote Speaker, Lowell Monke, renowned educator and author will lead this workshop, along with a team of local educators.

The Life of the Child Conference is dedicated to helping parents and professionals expand their understanding of the child and to grow in their ability to nurture family life. We are committed to exploring the principles of education of the whole child – head, heart, hands – which serve to foster the natural unfolding of all human beings.

Class of 2010 Commencement

Saturday June 12, 2010
A packed audience was treated to selections of Mozart’s Magic Flute during the high school commencement ceremony of the Lake Champlain Waldorf School on Saturday June 12. Eleven students in the class of 2010 performed a cappella and in full, gorgeous harmony during the students’ poignant and emotional farewell to the independent school in Charlotte and Shelburne.
Steve Crimy, one of the school’s humanities faculty described each student to the gathered parents, alumni, friends and teachers before presenting the diplomas, each a beautiful water color. He spoke not about their accomplishments but about a unique quality that each individual brought to the class and to the whole Lake Champlain Waldorf School community.
For the graduation ceremony, the school drew upon the rich festivals and celebrations that mark each student’s career. On the first day of each school year, every first grade student walks through a flowered arbor, and is presented a rose by a high school senior who welcomes them into the school community. As a lovely closing to their Waldorf education, each graduating senior received a rose to mark the completion and flowering of their education, along with their diploma that was created by an alumnus of the school.
Founded in 1984 upon the philosophy of Rudolph Steiner, Waldorf education’s overarching goals are to provide students with the basis on which to develop into free, moral and integrated individuals. Through a curriculum of academically challenging lessons, infused with the arts and informed by a unique understanding of a child’s developmental needs, the Lake Champlain Waldorf School educates its students to become well-rounded individuals capable of bringing purpose and direction to their lives, ready to think on their own, stand for themselves and act with empathy toward others. The school is the largest early childhood through high school in the state of Vermont.
