Joshua Nolan Moore, six year-old son of Jason and Christina Moore, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 24, 2013. With the deepest sadness we acknowledge his passing, as we remember with love, joy and gratitude his beautiful life.
Joshua was a kindergarten student in Sueanne Campbell’s class, and had also been in Mara Covan’s Morning Garden, and Susan Sassaman’s Star Garden.
Sueanne told her kindergarten class a beautiful story as the class prepared for Joshua’s passing. It is printed here. David Sewell McCann, a professional storyteller and parent in our school, also created and recorded a story in honor of Joshua: “The Hemlock Tree Elf.” You can listen to it at Sparkle Stories.

Below is Joshua’s obituary, from his family:

“Joshua was born in Burlington on Aug. 10, 2007. At a very young age, Joshua became interested in music and developed into a drummer extraordinaire. He also loved rescue vehicles and fire trucks, spending many hours watching the St. Michael’s fire department practice behind his home and doing some training of his own. Joshua had a budding interest in being a pilot and logged his first hour of flight training for his sixth birthday. Joshua was a bright light of joy to all who knew him, including hundreds of friends in the St. Michaels College and Sisters of Mercy communities, as well as the Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne where Joshua attended kindergarten.
Joshua leaves behind a soon-to-be-born sibling whom he already adored – kissing and talking to every day – and a large extended family: paternal grandparents, Janet Nolan, Tom and Lorraine Moore, and Michael Grove, all of Massachusetts; maternal grandparents, Carolyn Dague of Connecticut and Dayton Dague of Arizona; maternal great- grandparents, Jesse and Mary Dague of Arizona; and six aunts, six uncles, and nine cousins, aged nine and under.
A Mass in celebration of Joshua’s beautiful life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel at St. Michael’s College. Parking is available near the Ross Sports Center at the east entrance to the college. Visiting hours are at the family home on Dalton Drive in Colchester on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Arrangements are in the care of Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors. Memorial Contributions may be made in his honor to the Lake Champlain Waldorf School Scholarship Fund so that another child may benefit from the beauty of a Waldorf education.”
