OVERVIEW
CURRICULUM
In addition to delivering a rich, challenging academic curriculum, our Pre-K–12 education builds critical thinking, courage, and empathy—
essential skills to meet the challenges of today.
Parent & Child
Families find friendship and support as their little ones explore the world through play and imitation. Children fall in love with these rhythmic mornings of play, song, puppetry, meaningful work and community. They discover each other and the world: caring for dolls, cooking in the play kitchen, washing dishes. Seasonal crafts and outdoor play are woven into our mornings, during which we prepare and enjoy a wholesome snack together. Parents learn the value and benefits of family rhythms and how to support their children as they begin to navigate new social situations. Time for observation and weekly parenting topics are woven into our weekly supportive time together.
Early Childhood
Young children learn through imitation and our teachers strive to be worthy of imitation. They model hard work, treat others with kindness, and bring joy and humor to each day. Through cooking, baking, and setting the table for snack, children count, classify, and measure, laying the foundation for math and science. Children are supported in learning social skills—developing confidence, empathy and healthy conflict resolution skills. A predictable and consistent rhythm provides children with the freedom to be present while safe in the knowledge of what comes next. Our Early Childhood teachers have seamlessly integrated the Heggerty scope and sequence, as well as Orton-Gillingham methodology to bring early literacy instruction into the classroom.
Lower School
In grades 1-6, students embark on an educational journey both in their academics and within themselves. Our classrooms are filled with art, music, beauty, drama, problem-solving, wonder, play, and movement, which bring English, math, science, and history to life. Hands-on learning deepens concentration and awakens their intellect, while ample time outdoors keeps them in touch with nature and engages their sense of wonder. Instead of textbooks, students create their own lesson books as a way to synthesize and present their learning. Teachers remain with each class through their time in elementary school, forming a relationship that enables deep learning. Subject teachers provide rich access to Spanish, handwork, movement, and music, preparing students to be flexible and open, and to form new relationships outside their comfort zone.
Middle School
Grades 7-8 challenge students’ emerging ability to think critically, take responsibility for themselves, and forge their own identity. Young adolescents demand to know, “Why am I learning this?” Our approach answers their question with hands-on, experiential learning in science, math, humanities, Spanish, art, music, and physical education. Through building, shaping, experimenting, and grappling with each subject from every dimension, students approach adolescence able to tackle problems with imagination, empathy, and grit. Students gain greater freedom and accept more responsibility for their time. Extracurricular activities extend classroom learning, while sports teams offer opportunities for healthy competition within the community.
High School
Our curriculum emphasizes academic excellence while meeting high school students in their search for truth, meaning, and purpose. Forging a foundation for critical thinking, answers are gleaned from observation, discovery, and first-hand experience. Multimodal learning through drawing, movement, music, and creating by hand means that every student acquires a balanced liberal arts education. This integration of the arts deepens academic learning and builds understanding. Equal respect is given to cognitive, social, and emotional development, cultivating our students’ humanity in addition to their academic knowledge. Our students stand out once they get to college because they have a clear sense of who they are, a budding sense of what they want to do, and confidence in their capability to do it. They step into their future as unique, vibrant individuals, full of compassion, and ready to take their place in the world.
