TUITION
Tuition is our primary source of funding and supports nearly every aspect of the LCWS experience—from classroom furniture and supplies to class trips, facility maintenance, and the salaries of our faculty and staff. Each year, our Board of Trustees sets tuition based on projected enrollment, anticipated expenses, and fundraising goals.
At LCWS, we believe that financial circumstances should not prevent a child from becoming part of our school community. Our goal is to make an LCWS education accessible to as many families as possible while fostering a diverse, inclusive, and educationally enriching community.
Indexed Tuition
To support this goal, LCWS offers Indexed Tuition for students in kindergarten and above. Indexed Tuition allows a family’s tuition to be adjusted within a predetermined range based on their individual financial circumstances.
Families apply through Clarity, an independent third-party financial aid application service. The school’s Tuition Adjustment Committee reviews the financial information submitted through the Clarity portal and determines the appropriate tuition rate for each family. In making these decisions, the Committee considers both a family’s circumstances and the school’s ability to sustain its educational program and operations.
Approximately 1/3 of LCWS families apply for and receive Indexed Tuition.
A Commitment to Accessibility and Sustainability
LCWS is committed to making tuition as accessible as possible while responsibly stewarding the resources needed to provide a strong education for every student. Currently, our Indexed Tuition program is funded through the school’s operating budget rather than through a dedicated financial aid endowment or fund. As a result, tuition adjustments directly affect the revenue available to support the school’s programs and operations.

Act 166 provides non–need-based preschool funding for children ages 3–5 by September 1. Funds are paid directly to the LCWS and applied to 10 hours per week of preschool. To be eligible for the full subsidy, parents must complete registration through their local school district before the first day of school. For more information, click here or contact your local school district.
Note: Act 166 funds may be prorated by school districts for children with extended absences.
Also note: Children entering their official kindergarten year are not eligible for Act 166 but may apply for Indexed Tuition.
Child Care Financial Assistance Program: Guidelines for State Preschool Tuition Assistance and information on how to apply can be found on the DCF page of the Agency for Human Services website.

The process for determining where a family’s tuition falls on our indexed tuition scale takes into consideration the number of students enrolled. You complete one application for the family.
-
We offer four installment plans - lump sum, semi-annual, quarterly or monthly with payments due on either the 1st or 15th of each month.

In addition to Indexed Tuition, families may apply for our Diversity & Inclusion Fund Scholarship.

Our high school families may request the optional Waldorf Incentive Discount to help reduce the cost of tuition. This discount provides 3% tuition relief for each full year a student attended a Waldorf school in grades 1-8. It is applied before any tuition adjustment awards and does not affect minimum tuition requirements. To take advantage of this incentive, families should submit this application.
Note: The incentive does not apply to partial Waldorf years.

We know life can change, sometimes unexpectedly. At the time of enrollment, all families pay the required Tuition Protection Plan fee, which provides financial protection in case a student needs to withdraw from school. The fee is 1.5% of the adjusted tuition and is not included in the tuition rates above. Learn more about our plan and the terms here.

As is the case at most independent schools, tuition revenue alone does not cover the full cost of educating each student at LCWS. Fundraising, charitable giving, and the generous volunteer efforts of our families help make up the difference and sustain the richness of our programs.
